Branford

Grace L. Callejo of Branford passed peacefully Nov. 5 at Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by her family. Grace was born March 15, 1929, in New York, New York, daughter of the late Raphael and Mary (Susie) Lizarribar Callejo.

Grace moved to Cuba with her parents when she was four years old and lived there until she returned to New York as a young adult. In 1967 she and her husband Tony moved to Connecticut where their children were raised on the shore in Pine Orchard. Grace worked as a bookkeeper for her entire career, retiring from Casa Otonal in 2000. She loved to sing and dance and in her younger days participated in many chorales and dance groups along the shoreline. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed gardening and traveling, but more than anything she loved her family and friends. During retirement Grace volunteered at Read to Grow in Branford, where she made many good friends. She also traveled, and relished the role of being grandma.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Dianne (Miro) Milic of Alaska; her daughter Regina (Robert) Bejnerowicz of Branford; her son Marc Romero of Pine, Colorado; her beloved grandchildren Miro Milic, Jr., and Jacob and Julia Romero, whom she adored; dear friends Edie and John Milano and Paula Garcia, whose friendship enriched her life; and her former daughter-in-law Kathryn Perkins of Colorado.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Therese Church, Branford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to www.adaptivesportsevolution.org or to Read to Grow, Branford.
