Branford

Hazel Alloway Ward passed away on Nov. 8, just 10 days before her 92nd birthday. Hazel was the beloved wife of the late Robert Ward, Sr. Hazel was born in Hughenden, Australia, on Nov. 18, 1925, daughter of Charles and Rachel Alloway.

She met Bob in Charter’s Towers, Australia, in 1942, where he was stationed in the Air Force and they married in 1943. In 1945, when the war was over, she boarded a warbride ship bound for America and her husband Bob, where she spent the next seventy years raising her four children. She was a devoted wife and mother. Hazel enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and caring for her grandchildren. She was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Branford and a member of Eastern Stars.

Hazel is survived by her children Robert Ward, Jr., Penelope Peterson (Ted), Barbara Neagle (Tom), and Melinda Torelli (Gary), all of Branford. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dylan Ward, Larissa Foster, Jonah Dallai, Rachel Secondino, Ben Neagle, Jeffrey Peterson, Jessica Peterson, Austin Torelli, and Coral Torelli; her 9 great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives in Australia.

Our family wishes to thank Kelly, Barb, Louise, and Rhonda for their compassionate care for Hazel during her illness. We are so grateful for such a great lady, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed sadly forever.

Funeral services and burial will be private. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr., Ste. 900, Arlington, VA 22202. Please see her online memorial at www.wsclancy.com.
