East Haven

Helen “Dukie” Zacks, 92, of East Haven passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 6 with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to William and Anne (Knapp) Bridges.

Helen is survived by her loving and caring children, Sharon Willard of East Haven, Dolores Ricci (William) of Wallingford, Joanne Frank (Joel) of Branford, Robert Zacks, Jr., (Cindy) of Hamden, William Zacks (Robin) of Trumbull, and Christine Zacks of East Haven; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and special niece Gail DeBiase (Anthony). Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Zacks (2006); son Thomas Zacks (survived by widow June Squeglia of Branford); and siblings William Bridges, Edward Bridges, Robert Bridges, Frederick Bridges, Harold Bridges, and Dolores Steirs.

Dukie was the most kind, thoughtful, selfless, giving soul, who lived her life for the care and love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her guiding light through life was her undeniable devotion to her family and faith in the Lord. Anyone who met Dukie fell in love with her infectious spirit and became a friend for life. She will be sadly missed by everyone that she touched. A special thank you to Helen’s caregivers and the Connecticut Hospice of Branford Home Care for their kind and compassionate care.

The family received friends Nov. 10 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. The funeral procession left Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Nov. 11 for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven, followed by Committal at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Dukie was a gift from God that created our family, for which we are truly blessed. For an online obituary, visit www.Clancy-PalumboFuneralHome.com.
