Old Saybrook

 Clifford O. Allen, age 90, a longtime resident of Old Saybrook, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 6 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Everitt) Allen whom he married on Jan. 31, 1953, in Deep River. Cliff was born in Norwich on May 7, 1927, the son of Walter and Florence (Remmick) Allen.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army in the European Theater. Cliff was a resident of Old Saybrook for more than 60 years. He was a welder working at Essex Machine Works for more than 40 years, retiring in 1989. Cliff enjoyed building birdhouses and riding his classic Schwinn bicycle in Cornfield Point and through the beach roads of Old Saybrook. He would always stop to chat with his neighbors and was always a comic. He also loved boating and crabbing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Besides his wife Ginny, Cliff leaves his daughter Debra Clark and her husband Jay of Westbrook; sons Brian Allen and his wife Anita of Old Lyme, and James Allen and his wife Bellinda of Westbrook; his grandchildren Kaitlin Hutchins, Tyler Clark, Dylan Allen, James Allen, Kallista Allen, Stephanie Allen, Maxine Allen, Khrystyn Allen, and Cassandra Bartlett; and his great-grandchildren Hazel Hutchins and Mia Clark. He also leaves his sister Marion Whittlesey of Westbrook and his brother Walter Allen of Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his son Timothy Allen and grandson Gregory Allen.

Visitation will be held on Nov. 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m.. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Essex.
