Chester

Sandra L. Sumner, age 67, a lifelong resident of Chester, passed away peacefully on Oct. 25 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a long battle with cancer. Sandra leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Robert R. Sumner, and her daughters Kara White and her husband Shamar, and Kristina Sumner. She was born in Middletown on Feb. 8, 1950, the daughter of Dorothy (Preli) Lavezzoli of Chester and the late Charles A. Lavezzoli.

She was a graduate of Mercy High School in Middletown, class of 1968, and received her master’s in education from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. Sandra recently retired from Bouvier Insurance Company, where she served as a customer relationship specialist. Sandra was a lifelong communicant of Saint Joseph Church in Chester and a past member of the women’s auxiliary of the Chester Hose Company, where she was a former first responder. Sandra enjoyed her family, friends, traveling, and shopping. She was the #1 fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Besides her beloved husband and loving daughters and her mother Dot, she leaves her sister Nancy I. Geffken and her many nieces and nephews, who knew her as Aunt San.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Nov. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Ave. in Chester. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
