East Haven

Valerie Ward (Husted) Plaskon died unexpectedly in her home on Aug. 31 in East Haven at the age of 71.

Valerie is survived by her children Christine (Tina) Monaco of West Haven and Michael J. (Nicola) Plaskon; and five grandchildren, Aaron Michael (Ashley) Monaco of East Haven, Christina (Tina) Plaskon of Tampa, Florida, Caley Plaskon, Brie Plaskon, and Michael L. Plaskon of DeBary, Florida. She is also survived by her sister Jacqueline Husted; nieces Lisa Moses and Lynette Craney; and great-nephew Maurice and great-niece Alesha. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael M. Plaskon and her parents.

Valerie was born on Valentine’s Day 1946 in New Haven to John Henry and Mary Hitchcock Husted. She graduated from East Haven High School and married her high school sweetheart, Michael M. Plaskon. She was a loving, loyal wife and gave birth to her daughter while her husband served as a U.S. Marine in the Vietnam War. Later upon his return, they welcomed their son. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Valerie retired to Florida in the early 2000s to enjoy time with family. We are all grateful for the wonderful and happy memories she gave us.

A Memorial Mass service will be held in her remembrance at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 355 Foxon Rd., East Haven, on Nov. 2 at 9 a.m.

The family would like to thank her caregivers and our extended family and friends for their kind words and support during this difficult time.
