North Haven

Anthony ("Tony") Mario Mancini, 101, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Oct. 12 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Tony was born on Dec. 9, 1915, in New Haven to Pasquale and Maria Schpani Mancini.

He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Tony worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years until his retirement, and later worked for the former Union Trust Bank. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), and the North Haven Senior Center. Tony was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.

Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bernadette DeRosa Mancini, his sister Phyllis Parrella, and brother Ernest Mancini. Tony is survived by his daughter Joanne (Jeffrey) Weisser, and son Anthony Mancini. He is also survived by his granddaughters Lindsey (Brian) Cooper and Jodi (Nate) Weisser; his grandson Paul Anthony Weisser; and his great-grandsons Zachary, Bennett, and Tyler Cooper.

Tony lived a full life and was mentally vibrant until his last moments. He took great pride in his family and was the happiest in their company. He had a deep love for the New York Giants, UConn women's basketball, traveling (especially to Cancun), wine, cooking, bowling, playing cards (especially gin rummy and pinnacle), and driving his sports car, "the silver bullet."

Special thanks and deep appreciation are expressed by Tony's family to Dr. Glynn and the team at Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Dean at Yale Urology, and the devoted friends and staff at Bluebird Estates.

Family and friends are invited to St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Ave., North Haven, on Oct. 21 at 10:00 a.m. to attend a Mass of Christian burial, and are also invited to the committal service with full military honors immediately following in All Saints Cemetery.
