Guilford

A Guilford resident for 50 years, Gladys Louise Holland was 93 years young. She was born on Aug. 24, 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Milford and Ethel Harder. On Oct. 11, she passed away at home with family by her side after a battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. She now joins her husband of 63 years, Lewis S. Holland, in heaven.

Gladys was a medical secretary during the World War II period where she met the love of her life, Lewis, in Pensacola, Florida. Later she continued as a medical secretary in Guilford for a local doctor’s practice. She was very involved with many committees at First Congregational Church of Guilford. She was an extraordinarily kind woman who was an excellent seamstress, loved to play golf and go the beach, was an avid gardener and bird watcher, and thoroughly enjoyed watching her Red Sox.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Holland of Branford and Christine Holland of Columbia; and sister-in-law Mary Kearney of Guntersville, Alabama.

Cremation will take place and she will join Lewis in the Memorial Garden at First Church Guilford in a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St. Guilford, CT 06437. To sign her online guestbook, please visit hawleylincolnmemorial.com.
