Geraldine Mae (Flaherty) Lyke, 82, of New Haven passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 9, 1935 in New Haven to Charles and Emily (Mook) Flaherty. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edward Kenneth Lyke (2001). Geraldine is survived by her sister Marilyn (Angelo) Petrafesa of East Haven, nephew Charles (Danielle) Petrafesa of North Haven, and nieces Ginny (Todd) McLay of Antrim, New Hampshire, and Suzie (Chuck) Nurnberg of East Haven. She is also survived by great nieces Emily and Laura Petrafesa and Petra and Luci McLay. She also leaves her longtime friend and most helpful companion, “Uncle” Richard D’Amico.

Geraldine had a 26-year career as a nurse, graduating from Bellevue School of Nursing and retired after 26 years as a librarian with the New Haven Public School system. She enjoyed gardening around her house and traveling the world. She was very proud of traveling and putting her foot print on every continent.

Gerry’s family would like to thank Connecticut Hospice in Branford for its kind and compassionate care. A private burial service will take place at Orange Center Cemetery under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven. Donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice of Branford 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford CT 06405 in memory of Geraldine Lyke.
