Branford

Joseph Healy, 92, of Branford, died on Oct. 5 at Connecticut Hospice. He has been the husband of Anne Colavolpe Healy for the past 30 years. He was born in New Haven on Aug. 5, 1925 to the late Cornelius and Margaret Casey Healy.

Joseph was a retired captain of the New Haven Fire Department, where he retired in 1989 after 38 years of faithful service to the citizens of New Haven. His second career was spent with Cyberchrome of Branford where he worked for 17 years, until finally retiring at the age of 90, in 2015. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marines, serving his country during World War II, fighting with 6th Marine Division in Okinawa. Joe was a former member of the Knights of St. Patrick and also a recipient of their Fireman of the Year award in 1989.

He and his wife loved all animals; especially their five cats and they also loved to travel, spending time in Europe and Australia.

He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Healy of East Haven and Robyn (Ray) Jenkins, both of East Haven; two step-daughters, Barbara (William) Mezzano and Donna Passaro, both of North Haven; a sister, Jane (William) Dunn of Clinton; a granddaughter, Abigail Jenkins; and four step grandchildren, Nadine Mezzano, Olivia Kiraly, Matthew Mezzano and Dana Passaro. He will also be dearly missed by his extended family down at Tommy Sullivan’s Café.

Funeral services took place at the East Haven Memorial Longobardi-Brennan Funeral Home on Oct. 11. Entombment of ashes with full military honors took place at All Saints Cemetery.
