Guilford

Richard Irvin Parkes, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away Oct. 10 at the age of 56 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Richard was born in Hartford Hospital on July 12, 1961. He attended Guilford High School.

He leaves behind his parents Kenneth and Bobbie Parkes of Guilford, his brother Joe Parkes (Maribel) of Wallingford, his sister Michelle Rupert of Mechanicsville, Virginia, and Rhonda Haupt (Michael) of Deltona, Florida, his nephew Kenneth Sabo of Guilford, and his longtime girlfriend Dede Porter.

Richard worked for Don’s Landscaping. Richard’s love for working on cars and trucks as a mechanic was his life. He did machine work and was a welding fabricator. He loved stock car racing as well as slot car racing. He built an extensive H/O scale race track. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and his wave runner. He liked shooting his crossbow and watching his favorite show The Price is Right.

Family and friends were invited to a memorial service on Oct. 13 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. Burial took place privately.
