Maria Iovane Fernicola, 77, of East Haven, beloved wife of Frank Fernicola, passed away on Oct. 2 in Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus. Maria was born in Amalfi, Italy, on Sept. 7, 1940, daughter of the late Andrea and Lucia Vessichio Iovane.

Prior to her retirement Maria was a screen printing technician for Golia Enterprise.

She was the sister of Sylvana Iovane of Naples, Italy, Pietro Iovane of Paris, and the late Liliana Franzese and Aldagisa Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral procession will leave the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven, Oct. 6 at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Oct. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Southington, CT 06489.
