Deep River and Old Saybrook

Alan A. Mariani of Old Saybrook, formerly of Deep River, died peacefully at home on Sept. 17. He was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Waterbury to the late Americus and Josephine Mariani.

Alan attended Crosby High School in Waterbury before attending Saint Francis College in Biddeford, Maine. He took over his family’s business Connecticut Centerless Grinding after spending a few years in New York City pursuing other interests. After retiring, Alan started a car service, driving people he loved to airports and appointments.

Alan is survived by his daughters Jennifer and her husband Cristiano Figueiroa, and June Mariani, and grandchildren Julian and Bella Figueiroa, all of Southington; his sisters Henrietta Kilborn, Elaine Sardinskis, and Joan Max; his former wife and friend Marie; and his longtime best friend and husband Larry Hamre. Alan leaves behind numerous family members as well as many dear friends.

He was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, loved the theater and music, and was a member of the Old Lyme Country Club. Most of all he loved people and they loved him back. Alan had a terrific sense of humor and lit up every room he entered. He will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept. 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, Ferry Road, Old Lyme. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. To share a memory of Alan or send a condolence to his family, please visit www.rwwfh.com. Arrangements by Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook.
