Elizabeth ‘Bette’ Santry

Elizabeth “Bette” Santry, wife of Ronald J. Santry, Sr., and longtime Guilford resident, passed away Sept. 15 with family at her side. She was born in Tarrytown, New York, on June 3, 1933, to the late Leroy Yager and Frances (Smith) Yager. She graduated from the North Tarrytown High School.

She was married to Ronald her high school sweetheart for 63 years. During that time together they lived in New York, California, New Jersey, Japan, Virginia, and Connecticut.

She is survived by her sons Daniel J. Santry and his wife Linda of Westfield, New Jersey, John J. Santry and his wife Joann of Madison, and Ronald J. Santry, Jr., of Mississippi.

She is also survived by grandchildren Daniel, Matthew, and Joseph, Laura and Michael, and Rehann and a great-grandson, Elliott Elijah; special sister-in-law Mary Yager of Arizona; and niece Carrie Yager of San Diego, California.

She retired from the Sears Roebuck Company in Hamden and was an active member of the Branford YMCA and the Madison Encore Club. Betty enjoyed time with family and especially with the grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and friends throughout Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States; and summers at the beach, pool, and lakeside. She had a passion for reading, current events, and politics. Some of her favorite times were her Cape Cod getaways with her girlfriends, childhood friends Angie and Rowe; being a second mother to Carey and Tina; winter vacations in Mexico with her dear friend and in-law Ann Hartmann; Bingo nights; cheering on the UConn basketball teams; and making new friends wherever she went

Friends are invited to calling hours on Sept. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial celebrating her life will be held at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
