Branford

George J. Cornachini, Sr., of Branford died Sept. 4 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of Florence Ghiroli Cornachini. George was born in Derby Dec. 27, 1925, son of the late Sabatino and Guiseppina Giacomoni Cornachini.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a dispatcher for Cooley Chevrolet for 30 years, and after that he worked as custodian for the Branford Public Schools from 1980 until retiring in 2004. George was a member of the Italian-American (IA) Club of Branford, American Legion Post 83 in Branford, the Guilford Gun Club, the Marchegian Club of New Haven, and the AM Club in Derby. He had a love for cooking, gardening, painting, and feeding the birds. He enjoyed all of his buddies he played cards with at the IA Club. He volunteered countless hours cooking at the IA Club, the Guilford Gun Club, and the Branford Fest.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children Marsha Lynn Cornachini (Dominick Prodoti) of Westbrook, Elise (Peter) Kelley, and George J. (Carol) Cornachini, Jr., both of Branford; and five grandchildren, Erin (Marty) Emerson, Ashley Kelley, Katelyn (Raymond) Beaulac, and Alexa and Blake Cornachini. He is also survived by his sister Navia (Frank) Osak of Huntington; and his sister-in-law Gloria Cornachini. George was predeceased by his sister Lillian Buismato, his brothers Dante and Americo Cornachini, and his nephews Joseph Buismato and Francis Osak, and David Cornachini. George also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

His funeral left from the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, Sept. 9 for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Therese Church, Branford. Burial followed in St. Agnes Cemetery.
