Branford

Leona Anderson Kowalczyk of Branford died Sept. 4 at the Hospital of St. Raphael Campus, YNHH. She was the beloved wife of Henry Kowalczyk. Leona was born in New Haven April 21, 1930, daughter of the late Alfred H. and Gertrude Ball Anderson.

She worked as an administrative assistant for A.C. Gilbert’s, Echlin (ACC), and SNET, where she retired. Leona was very talented with needlework, winning many ribbons at local fairs and craft shows.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters Mary-Lee Christoforo (Ronald) and Susan Andrews, both of Branford, and Cindy Csire (Joseph) of Trumbull; grandchildren Mark, Todd, Michele, Lauren, and Amy; two great-grandchildren; her sister Mary Brezicki of Northford; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Alfred, Robert, and Edward Anderson.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. There are no calling hours. Leona was an animal lover, so her family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 E.
