North Haven and Hamden

Louis E. Gerbi, 98, of the Atria at Larson Place, Hamden, formerly of Sara Circle, North Haven, passed away peacefully on Aug. 11 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. Guandalini Gerbi. Louis was born in Littleton, Massachusetts, on May 22, 1919, and was the son of the late Harry and Anna Marletta Gerbi.

He served his country faithfully in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theatre in Saipan, Guam, and Guadalcanal. Louis worked for Pratt & Whitney for 30 years, retiring as a machinist, and later for the Town of North Haven Parks & Recreation Department for 10 years. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus/Father Donaher Council and a member of the American Legion Murray/Reynolds Post #76, both of North Haven. Louis was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn girls’ basketball fan.

He was the father of Rosalie Lamontagne, Marilyn Verna, L. Dennis Gerbi, and Julius Gerbi. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond Peter Gerbi.

His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Aug. 16. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Barnabas Church. Interment with full military honors followed in the North Haven Center Cemetery. The visiting hours were held Aug. 15.
