Guilford

Ruth Carolyn Walker of Guilford died peacefully at home on Aug. 6 at the age of 96. She was born on Feb. 1, 1921, to John Robert Walker and Flora Jacobs Walker. Her siblings, the twins Robert L. Walker and June (Walker) Spencer, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Helen (Walker) Jacobsen; her aunt Alice (Walker) White; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

During World War II, Ruth supervised the distribution of Connecticut-made war materials for the New Departure Company in Guilford. After the war, she managed the office of Knapp Foundry for nearly fifty years before her retirement. Her many pursuits and talents included vegetable gardening, playing music on the organ and guitar, knitting and crocheting, clamming and fishing at Indian Cove, and, of course, following the progress of the Yankees each season.

Ruthie was loving and generous to family and friends. Throughout her life she cared for members of her family and also some close friends, helping to support them during times of illness. As the family elder after the passing of her parents, she was greatly admired, respected, and loved. She will be missed by all who loved her.

There will be no calling hours or service. Burial in Alder Brook Cemetery will be private. Arrangements in the care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. To share a memory or leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.GuilfordFuneralHome.com.
