East Haven

Joseph DeGaetano, 66, of East Haven, passed away on July 17 at Connecticut Hospice surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Louisa Leonetti DeGaetano. He was born in Melizzano, Italy, a province of Benevento on Nov. 28, 1950, to the late Pasquale and Antonietta Mezza DeGaetano.

He grew up in Argentina and as a young man came to reside in the United States. Joe worked as a machinist for many years. He started at Fluids Control Division of Hamden, then went to New Haven Manufacturing, and finally retired from Harco. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling, and was passionate about soccer both as a fan and as an athlete.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Gabriella DeGaetano, his son Joseph Michael DeGaetano, and a sister, Maria DeGaetano, all of East Haven.

His funeral procession left the East Haven Memorial Longobardi–Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708, July 22 for a Funeral Mass at St. Bernadette Church.
