Madison

Capt. James R. Boling, 82, passed away peacefully at home on July 30 after a long illness with his wife by his side. James was born on July 18, 1935, in Slater, Missouri, to the late Juanita Patterson and Jesse Boling.

James graduated from Topeka High School in 1953 and the University of Nebraska Navy ROTC program in 1957. He was commissioned as a Naval officer in June of 1957 and spent 10 years on active duty in different parts of the country and overseas. After retiring from active duty, he remained in the Navy Reserve for 20 more years. He joined Pan American World Airways as a pilot in 1967 and retired as a Capt. in 1991.

He was a parishioner of North Madison Congregational Church, as well as a lifelong member of the Airline Pilots Association. He lived in Madison for the past 34 years and enjoyed gardening and working outside.

He will be dearly missed by Irmgard, his wife of 34 years, his five children, and six grandchildren. His children are Dr. Mark Boling with Beth and Zac and Sara of Evansville, Indiana; CDR Michael Boling of Anniston, Alabama; Rebecca Sinclair and Ian and Allen of Prince George, British Columbia, Canada; Bryan Boling with Lyn and Meghan and Parker of Madison; and Kyle Boling of Port Orange, Florida.

Calling hours will be held on Aug. 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. The Funeral Service will take place Aug. 12 at 11:00 a.m. at North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Rd., Madison, with a reception following in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be held Aug. 14 at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to North Madison Congregational Church, Music Fund, 1271 Durham Rd., Madison, CT 06443.
