Branford

Alice Spaar of Branford died peacefully in her home on Aug. 1. She was the wife of the late Malcolm Blair Spaar. Alice was born in Wimmers, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 28, 1927, daughter of the late Frederick and Emma Bentler Clemens.

Alice was the loving mother of daughter Lorraine Spaar of Branford, and sons Wayne (Lucy) Spaar of Bradenton, Florida, and Keith (Judy) Spaar of Branford. Alice is survived by her sister Gladys Zawicki of Mt. Cobb, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her sisters Mildred Plociniak and Leona DeMatteo, and brothers Ralph Clemens and Francis John Clemens.

A longtime Branford resident, Alice raised her three children in the family’s ancestral home in town. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed gardening in her yard, baking, bowling, and, most of all, caring for her grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be private. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, is in charge of arrangements.
