Killingworth

Dennis C. Cronin, 86, of Killingworth passed away June 19 at Connecticut Hospice. Formerly of New York City, Dennis was born June 21, 1930, in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He graduated from Columbia College in 1952. Following college Dennis served in the US Army during the Korean War. He attended Columbia Law School, graduating in 1957.

Dennis had a long and productive legal career. Following law school he joined the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. as part of the Honors Program. From Washington Dennis was recruited by the firm of Hahn, Loeser, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent several years. In 1965 he returned to New York City to join the firm of Reavis & McGrath, working in civil litigation.

In 1975 Dennis joined Wertheim & Co as director of compliance. He retired as legal/compliance counsel in 1998. In retirement, Dennis was an arbitrator for FINRA, the Financial Industries Regulatory Authority.

Dennis had a lifelong love of boating, the sea, fine food, art, music, and nature. He was an avid reader of nonfiction. He was a rock for his family.

He is survived by his wife Christine; his son Dennis and his wife Amanda of Charlottesville, Virginia; his daughter Kate; as well as three grandchildren, Alden, McKenna, and Liam of Burlington, Vermont.

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family later this summer. Memorial donations in Dennis’ honor may be made to Connecticut Hospice in Branford or the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
