East Haven

Frank J. Kowaleski, 98, of East Haven, formerly of Shawmut Avenue, North Haven, passed away peacefully on June 18 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Ethel Miller Kowaleski. Frank was born in New Haven on Oct. 11, 1918, son of the late John and Frances Chomicz Kowalewski.

He served his country faithfully in the US Army during WWII; worked as a butcher all his life; and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and woodworking.

He was the father of the late Janet Given; the father-in-law of George F. Given; and the grandfather of Christopher (Lindsay) Given, Lissa (Michael) Stein, Megan (Christopher) DiMetro, and Mark and Sarah Orensteen. He was the brother of Alfred Kowalewski and the late Joseph Kowaleski, Arthur Kowalewski, Walter Kowaleski, and John and Frances Kowalewski. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., June 21. Family and friends called before the procession. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church. Interment with full military honors followed in All Saints Cemetery.
