Guilford

Edwin Henry Fisher, Jr., died June 8 at the age of 93. He was born on Feb. 6, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Elizabeth Walden Fisher and Edwin Henry Fisher.

Fondly known as Binks, he graduated from the Phillips Exeter Academy in 1942, and then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Yale University in 1945. After serving in the American Field Service during WWII, he returned to Yale to earn a master’s degree in 1948. Upon his retirement from the Ithaco Corporation, Binks tutored students at Guilford High School and was involved with the VITA program.

He served on the Guilford Harbor Management Commission and was harbormaster of Sachem’s Head. Binks spent many hours sailing on the waters of Long Island Sound and was commodore of the Sachem’s Head Yacht Club from 1978 to 1979.

He is survived by his wife Susan S. Fisher; and their children Edith F. (Dede) Fisher (Phil Applebaum), David W. Fisher II, Elizabeth F. (Betsy) Rock, and Edwin H. (Ted) Fisher III (Connie). In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Heather Fisher, Robin Fisher, Tucker Rock, Brooks Rock, Hutch Fisher, Charlie Fisher, and Henry Fisher. Binks also leaves behind his brother David W. Fisher, as well as many nieces and nephews. Binks was predeceased by his brother John C. Fisher and son-in-law James E. Rock.
