Guilford and Alexandria, Virginia

Brian T. Sullivan, 60, of Alexandria, Virginia, died Feb. 26 after an extended illness. He grew up in Guilford, the son of the late Gerald and Helen Sullivan.

Brian was predeceased by his brother Gerald Sullivan and nephew Matthew Sullivan. He is survived by his brothers Dennis (Helen) of Colchester; John (Andy) Sullivan of Rockville, Maryland; and his sister Margaret Higgins (Stephen) of Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by sister-in-law Kathleen Sullivan of East Randolph, Vermont; nephews Patrick Sullivan (Amy) of Charleston, South Carolina, and Michael Sullivan of Northfield, Vermont; his partner John Burak of Alexandria; a large extended family; and many friends.

Brian was a graduate of Guilford High School (‘74), and held a BS in accounting from the University of New Haven. Brian started his professional life with the Connecticut Department of Transportation, followed by a career with the US Internal Revenue Service. Brian began his IRS career as a revenue agent in Bridgeport, and was quickly elevated to international tax analyst in Washington, DC.

Brian retired early on disability. In retirement, he worked as an accountant for local Washington, DC, banks and hotels. Brian loved his pets, gardening, traveling, and being outdoors. He was a member of the Prime Timers DC, a member of the Transplant Recipients International Organization, and volunteered for the National Zoo in Washington, DC.

An Alexandria, Virginia, funeral service was held on March 2 at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, Alexandria, VA 22314. Inurnment will take place at St. George’s Cemetery in Guilford on Saturday, July 8 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at Hammonasset State Park in Madison at 11:30 a.m. All past colleagues, friends, family, and classmates are invited and encouraged to attend.
