Margaret M. Dunne passed away peacefully at her home in Old Saybrook on May 20, surrounded by her family. Margaret is survived by her husband, William J. Dunne and her five children, Michael (Dana), Old Saybrook, David (Peggy), Yonkers, New York, John (Karen), Auburn, New York, Sheila, Old Saybrook, and Lynda (Mike), Cornwall, New York.

Margaret is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren, Nicole, Patrick, Maggie, and Betsy Dunne; Ian, Aiden, and Mairead Dunne; Casey, Molly, and Rory Dunne; Katie, Liam, and Emma Rogan; and Mikey, Carley and Meghan Neilsen.

Margaret was born in Ireland, the daughter of Armour and Margaret (McSweeney) Meldrum.

She married William in Dublin, Ireland, and they moved to New York in the 1950s, where they started a family and eventually settled in Rye, New York, before moving to Old Saybrook in 2014.

Margaret was an avid tennis player, golf enthusiast, exceptional piano player, and artist.

Margaret received her master’s of fine arts from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, where she continued her love of the arts as an adjunct professor of art education.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. John, Old Saybrook. Swan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Foundation.
