Chester

John H. McNally, age 89, a longtime resident of Chester, passed away on June 4 at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford. John was the beloved husband of Lorraine (Hall) McNally. He was born in Ellington on April 1, 1928, the son of the late Francis E. and Rose (Hellandbrand) McNally.

John had been a resident of Chester for the last 60 years and prior to that he had resided in both Centerbrook and Deep River. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the US Army. Following his discharge in 1952, he began his career as a truck driver, delivering oil throughout the Lower Connecticut River Valley for the former Esso and Economy Oil Companies of Centerbrook. He retired from the Daniels Oil Company of Portland in 1990. John was a member of The United Church of Chester. For years, he enjoyed meeting with his friends for breakfast at the Old Saybrook McDonalds.

Besides his wife Lorraine, he leaves his daughters Lisa A. McNally of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Nancy M. Magnuson and her husband Jon of Lebanon; his son John S. McNally and his wife Lily Jiang of Plainville; his grandsons Jason, Ryan, Jacob, Ethan, and Chandler; great-grandsons Marshall and Archer Kohen-McNally; and his great-granddaughter Ivy McNally. John was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Kathleen Rose McNally, and his son Steven J. McNally.

A graveside service with the rendering of Full Military Honors will be held on June 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the Centerbrook Cemetery, Westbrook Road in Centerbrook.
