Old Saybrook

Jane S. Griffin (Slattery), 95, a longtime resident of Old Saybrook, caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 24 after a brief illness with family by her side. She was born April 23, 1922, in Hartford to the late Marshall and Marguerite Slattery. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Griffin whom she married on June 29, 1945. They shared a love of life with many friends and family.

A devoted mother, she leaves her children John M. Griffin and his wife Debi of Roswell, Georgia; Susan J. Goekler of Old Saybrook; James A. Griffin of Middletown; and Mark J. Griffin of Berryville, Virginia. She was a loving grandmother to ten grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Marian Wynne and Glenna Bernard; and her brothers John A. Slattery and Joseph L. Slattery.

Jane loved her family and had an extraordinarily positive outlook on life and a sweet, gentle nature. Jane was a parishioner of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook.

A funeral procession will begin at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Old Saybrook on May 1. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook. Calling hours are on April 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the favorite charity of the donor.
