Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Mary Teresa Ciotti, born June 27, 1922, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, died peacefully on April 8 at The Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. Funeral services were held at her beloved Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth on April 12.

Predeceased by her parents Nazzareno and Caterina Bernardi Succi and her husband Lawrence Ciotti, she is survived by her sons Larry (Barbara) of Madison and Bob (Peggy) of Dover, New Hampshire. She also leaves her eight grandchildren, Susan (Bill) Wivell, Mike (Licia) Ciotti, and Cat (Sean) Lynch, all of Madison, and Dee (Brian) Kelly of Maryland, Jeremy Ciotti (fiancée Catherine), Greg Ciotti (partner Holly), Jessica (Christopher) Cahill, and Elizabeth Ciotti, all of New Hampshire; and her sixteen great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud.

Having lived most of her years in “The North End” of Portsmouth, and being a very out-going and social person, she became a walking book of North End memorabilia and history and loved sharing her memories with family and friends. In 2010, she was so excited to attend her 70th high school class reunion, having graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1940. She was a long-standing, active member of The Sons of Italy, celebrating her strong Italian heritage. Because she raised two sons who both became teachers and coaches, she valued a good education and was happy she could provide that to “her boys,” so contributions in her memory can be made to The Albert and Anita DiPaolo Scholarship Fund, c/o Seacoast Lodge 2303, P.O. Box 132, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
