John A. Kovack, 82, of Killingworth died April 13 at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born in Queens, New York, the son of the late John G. and Henriette (Tyler) Kovack, and graduated from Bayside High School. A veteran of the Korean War, John served with the US Army. Prior to retirement he was in the chemical industry for 30 years, holding several positions, including vice president of Lonza Inc., executive VP at Desmo Chemical Corp., and owner, founder, and CEO of Devchem International, Inc.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Frances Studzinski and her husband Daniel of Killingworth; and two grandchildren, Kylie Studzinski and Daniel Studzinski, Jr.

Calling hours were held at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, on April 21, followed by a service. Burial in the State Veterans’ Cemetery will be at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 220 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
