Paul M. Coughlin, 65, passed away at Yale-New Haven Hospital on April 19. He was born in New Haven on Feb. 16, 1952, to the late Nancy (Gilmore) Coughlin and John J. Coughlin, Jr. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Tom Richards. He is survived by his daughters Kelly Mackenzie (Ryan) of Prospect, Kristin Norden (George) of Branford, and former wife Karen Coughlin Belush of Branford. He is also survived by his siblings Margaret (Peg) Fisher and her husband Doug of Northford, Patrick Coughlin and his wife Barbara of Northford, Maureen C. Richards of North Branford, and Glenn Coughlin and his wife Kari of Poway, California. In addition, Paul is survived by three loving grandchildren, his niece, and his nephews.

Paul was an athlete, member of the student government, and graduate of West Haven High School in West Haven. He received the West Haven Twilight League 2002 Gold Bat Award for his accomplishments as a player. He went on to attend Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, where he was captain of the baseball team and president of his fraternity.

Paul was a longtime resident of Clinton, where he owned Clinton Paint & Decorating for more than 25 years and was an active member in the community. Paul supported the soup kitchen and was a member of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. His love for “his girls” and sports shined as he coached and attended their little league, high school, and college games. Paul was a devout Yankees fan, avid golfer, and member of the Clinton Country Club.

A funeral mass will be held for Paul on April 24 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 54 Grove St., Clinton. His family will receive friends on Sunday, April 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Clinton Social Services Department in Clinton.
