Punta Gorda, Florida, and Clinton

Barbara A. Jensen, 91, of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Clinton, passed from this life to be with our Lord on Jan. 30. She was born in Harburg, Germany, Feb. 7, 1925, to the late Ingvald K. Andersen and Augusta Eva (Hupe) Andersen. She was married to Niels E. Jensen on June 28, 1947.

Barbara moved to the United States with her parents and grew up in Brooklyn, New York, until her marriage when she moved to Bronx, New York. Barbara met her husband Niels in New York. In 1956 they moved their family to Clinton. In 2005 they retired to Punta Gorda, Florida.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 69 years, Niels; sons Robert and wife Lana, and Russell and wife Bonnie; and five grandchildren, David, Eric and wife Eva, Lauren Keating and husband Andrew, Kirsten, and Alexandra. She was predeceased by her sister Elinore Arends and son Peter.

Barbara was a dedicated servant of God who loved to play the piano and organ and sing in a church choir. She worked for the Town of Clinton for 29 years and retired as assistant treasurer in 1992.

Barbara loved life, her family, friends, and music.

The community and friends are invited to a special Chamber Music Concert celebrating Barbara’s life on May 5 at 7 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook (Congregational), 366 Main St., Old Saybrook. The music will be played by two violins, viola, and cello, with piano accompaniment by Garrett Artman. The concert is open to the public with a Free Will Offering in Barbara’s memory that will be given to the First Church of Christ in Saybrook (Congregational) to support its ministry.

A private interment will be held at the Indian River Cemetery, Clinton.
