North Haven

Francis “Ernie” Plaut, 91, of North Haven passed away April 11 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Martindale Plaut. Ernie was born in New Haven on Jan. 18, 1926, son of the late Emil and Marion McLaughlin Plaut.

He served his country faithfully as a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and the Korean war. He then worked as a salesman for the former Price Club, and was a member of the American Legion, Murray/Reynolds Post #76 of North Haven, and a retired member of the Lancraft Fife & Drum Corps.

He was the father of Barbara A. Plaut, Karen L. Plaut, and James F. Plaut; and the grandfather of James N., Sarah E., and Ethan M. Plaut. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Plaut, and a brother, Robert Plaut.

Private funeral services have been entrusted to the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave. Interment with full military honors will be private in All Saints Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, Inc., 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405, or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.
