North Haven

William (Bill) J. Carey, age 74, of North Haven passed away on April 12. He was the husband of Rosemary Browne Carey. Bill was born in New Haven on Sept. 13, 1942, son of the late Walter and Grace Fairchild Carey.

Bill worked in various professions, including as a graphic artist for the New Haven Register; president of the New Haven Typographical Union Local 47; union representative for the Teamsters Union Local 443; executive director of the Unemployment Council of the Central Labor Council; a Congressional staffer for Congressman Bruce Morrison in the 3rd District; and a fundraising coordinator for the United Way. He was a member of the Branford Elks Lodge #1939, at one time serving as its exalted ruler.

Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his children Stephanie Fitzgerald Smith (Peter), Kevin Fitzgerald (Leanne), and Adrianne Carey Campbell (Peter); and grandchildren Parker, Jenna, and Griffin Smith, Anna and Connor Fitzgerald, and Corey, Kyle, Megan, and Hannah Campbell.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home on April 19 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Ave., North Haven, on April 19 at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be April 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
