Anthony R. Melillo, 83, of East Haven passed away peacefully on Feb. 1 under the care of hospice.

He is survived by his wife of many years, Jean Payne Melillo; his son Anthony (Eva); daughter Brenda Payne; his cherished granddaughter Michela Melillo; his favorite cat Kiki; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Rose Melillo; his much loved brothers Dominick, John, and Alfred; and sisters Molly, Julia, Peggy, and stepson Bill Payne.

After a long-term cardiac condition, Anthony received a heart transplant on Dec. 24, 1992. He was forever humbled and grateful for his “second life.” He became a devoted volunteer for the Heart Transplant Program at Yale Hospital.
