East Haven

Elizabeth “Betty” DiLabio, 86, of East Haven died on Feb. 9 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Americo “Mario” DiLabio. She was born in Salford, Lancashire, England, on Oct. 20, 1930, to the late John and Elizabeth Skade Owens, and came to America in 1960.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Americo “Mario” DiLabio; and her daughter Jean Edwards-Chieppo and her grandson Nicholas Chieppo, both of East Haven. She was predeceased by a brother, Jack Owens, and three sisters, Edna Owens, Marjorie Owens McCann, and Joyce Owens Cole. She also leaves behind many loving family members and friends, as well as her adorable new puppy that she loved so much.

She worked as a bookkeeper all around the city for just about 30 years, until retiring from Racebrook Country Club. Besides the love for her family and friends, she had many other passions, including baking, meticulously maintaining her home, music, the piano, and the outdoors, especially birds and flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends were invited to attend a gathering Feb. 15 at the East Haven Memorial Longobardi–Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708. Burial services were private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the United States at www.humanesociety.org, or The ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6936.
