Old Saybrook

Debra (Oelschlagel) McIntyre, 63, of Old Saybrook passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 13. Debbie was born in Westbrook to the late Herbert and Kathleen Oelschlagel.

After graduating from Westbrook High School, Debbie married her high school sweetheart and they started their journey to live happily ever after. Over their 44 years of marriage, they lived in Montana, Virginia, Germany, California, and North Dakota before returning to the Connecticut shoreline.

Debbie is survived by two children, Jason McIntyre of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jasmine McIntyre of Stamford; and her grandchildren Emma McIntyre and Harper McIntyre. She is also survived by her sisters Linda Norton, K.C. Whelen, and Laurie McGrath.

Debbie retired after 20 years as a civil servant at the Grand Forks Air Force Base and Groton Naval Base. In her retirement, Debbie pursued her lifelong dream of becoming an artist. Some of the things that Debbie loved most were time with her family and friends, bike rides to the beach, sketching, jewelry making, art journaling, painting, teaching art classes, sister trips, and always trying to make things special for others.

Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. March 17 at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on March 18 at Westbrook Congregational Church, 1166 Boston Post Rd., Westbrook.
