Madison

Julio C. Auffant, 86, of Madison died peacefully on Feb. 12 surrounded by his loving family. Julio was born April 1, 1930, to the late Augustin Auffant and Rosaura Angulo in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Julio was one of six siblings, including Juan Auffant (deceased); Augustin Auffant (deceased); Rosarita Auffant (deceased); Armando Angulo of Spring Hill, Florida; and Nancy Segarra of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

At the age of 14, Julio moved to New York City. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned as a language translator because of his fluency in Spanish. After his military service, Julio was a salesman for Burlington Industries and Professional Office Services. He also started two companies, Certified Business Systems and Computer Innovations.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Edna E. Auffant, and their three children, Suzanne and William Cicale of Oxford, Laurie Auffant and Lisa Rubin of Lowell, Massachusetts, and Steven and Christine Auffant of Chebeague Island, Maine. He was a wonderful grandfather to Nicholas Cicale, Louis Cicale, Ryan Auffant, and Jason Auffant; and brother-in-law to Lillie Burkhardt of New York, New York.

Julio enjoyed traveling and spending time in both his Madison and St. Petersburg, Florida, homes.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St., Guilford, on Saturday, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, http://bit.ly/InMemoryOfJulio.
