Gladyce Irma (Colodny) Lawrence, 87, passed away March 3 after a short and unexpected illness. She was born on April 21, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, to Marie and Alexander Colodny.

After graduation from Upsala College, she worked as a social worker before starting her family. As her children grew, she opened a health food store, The Jolly Sprout. She sold newspaper advertising for more than 20 years before retiring at age 76. After retirement, she became very involved with volunteer work, AAUW, Connecticut River Museum, Florence Griswold Museum, The Kate, and the Ivoryton Playhouse. She was also fortunate to have been surrounded by a wonderful circle of friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and her grandson Alex Lawrence. She is survived by her three children, Robin and her husband Wells, Scott and his wife Debbie, and Bruce and his wife Chantal; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Calling hours will be held at Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook on Friday, April 7 from 5 to 7 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Connecticut River Museum, Essex,or the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme.
