Old Saybrook

Joanne Therese Garvey, née Tanguay, 86, of Old Saybrook, passed away Feb. 9 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Joanne enjoyed her last days looking out over Long Island Sound with family and friends by her side. Joanne was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Armand and Agnes (née Barry) Tanguay.

Joanne is predeceased by her husband Alfred Garvey and two children, Paul and Lynda Garvey. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Murphy (Old Lyme), Luann Jenkins (Rancho Cordova, California), Mary Jo Lequin (North Branford), Kimberly Paulick (Mountain View, California), Kelley Honer (Charlotte, North Carolina), and her son Martin Garvey (Mountain View, California) and their spouses. Joanne had eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy.

Joanne graduated from Cathedral High School. She dedicated much of her life to raising her eight children in Old Saybrook, the town she loved and lived in for 55 years. Old Saybrook summers were Joanne’s favorite, where she could often be found with her many friends at Old Saybrook Town Beach. She loved traveling for family gatherings in Hawaii, Idaho, California, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico. Her favorite destination was Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in Florida, where she spent many winters with friends, children, and grandchildren. With her husband Alfred, she shared a life full of friends who were always dear to her heart and enriched her life.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Saybrook, where Joanne was a communicant. The Mass will be held on Monday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. Following Mass, her family will hold a Celebration of Life gathering at The Pavilion at Saybrook Point.
