Branford

Michael A. “Mickey” Nardella of Branford died Feb. 13 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of Marie Nardella. Mickey was born in Branford Jan. 11, 1931, son of the late Michele and Michelena Nardella.

He was a 1948 graduate of Branford High School. He then attended Wilcox Tech for mechanical drafting. When the Korean War began, Mickey joined the U.S. Air Force reserves. After the war, he began working at his family’s business, Nardella Paint and Wallpaper Supplies, and then left and started his own business, Nardella Painting and Decorating, which he continued to operate for many years.

Mickey was a former member and, at the time, the youngest commodore of the Branford Yacht Club. He served as the Branford harbormaster for 26 years, during which time he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers on the dredging of Branford and Stony Creek harbors. Mickey enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, and his Wednesday afternoons at the Branford Yacht Club. He always enjoyed entertaining and being around his family and friends.

Besides his wife, Mickey is survived by his children Amy (William) Lackie of Beverly, Massachusetts; Michael (Carrie) Nardella of Branford; Sam Nardella of Branford; Maria (Steven) Webb of North Andover, Massachusetts; Mia Collins of Branford; Martin Collins of North Carolina; and John Collins of Branford. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nathan and Nicholas Lackie; Grace, Cara, and Sally Nardella; Tucker Webb; Eugene and Alison Collins; and John Paul Collins. In addition he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna Krewsky Nardella; his daughter Anna Catherine Nardella; his brother Gino Nardella; and his sister Louise Carulli.

His family would like to thank the VAMC-West Haven for all the care given to Mickey over the years, and they send a special thank you to Stephanie Evans-Ariker and the staff at the Orchard House for the last four years. And finally they would like to thank the staff at Connecticut Hospice for their tender care of Mickey these past few days.

His funeral will leave from the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, Feb. 16 at 9:30 a.m., for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary Church at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
