East Haven

Michael A. Lonardo went home to be with his Savior Jesus on Jan. 31. He passed peacefully at his home in East Haven. Michael was 89 years of age and was born in New Haven on May 27, 1927, to the late Angelo and Josephine Ferri Lonardo.

He was the youngest of three and was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Salvatore Lonardo. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julie Polek Lonardo; his four children, Michael J. Lonardo and Patricia L. Lonardo both of East Haven, Marianne Lonardo and companion James Muro of Juno Beach, Florida, and David Lonardo and his wife Paula of Wallingford; granddaughter Jessica M. Baker and her husband Chris of Arkansas; and great-granddaughter Avaleen Rose Baker. He is “Uncle Mike” to Laurie, Susan, Lu-Ann, Paul, Eddie, and Christine, all of his brother Sal’s beautiful children.

Michael was a WWII veteran and served his country as a sergeant in the Army at a prisoner of war camp in France. He was a member of Union Local 90 IBEW electricians union in New Haven for more than 65 years. He loved to play golf and was a member of New Haven Municipal Golf Course. “Father Mike” as he was affectionately known (because he wired many churches in the area for M.B. Foster Electric), was a wonderful husband and father and was liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He always had a joke or a story to tell that made people smile. Above all Michael loved his family and was proud of all of us.

Very special thanks to the Foxon Volunteer Fire Department, the VNA, and all those who cared for our dad these past few years. In closing, a favorite quote from ole Daddio, “Lets Wrap It Up”! :) We Love You and Will See You Again!
