Madison

Marjorie “Midge” C. Ehrenfreund, 74, of Madison passed away Jan. 12 as the result of an accident. She was born on Sept. 12, 1932, in Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Garrett Elliott Conover and Olive Russlend Conover.

Midge grew up in Verona, New Jersey. After graduating from Endicott College, she worked for NBC at Rockefeller Center in New York City until she took on her proudest job as a wife and mom to her three girls. Midge was happiest spending time with her family, gardening, golfing, and playing bridge. She was particularly proud to have attained Silver Life Master status, traveling throughout the US for bridge tournaments. She considered her bridge friends to be her extended family. Midge loved games, puzzles, and baking, especially for others. She was also an avid fan of the Uconn women’s basketball team. Midge was a member of the First Congregational Church of Madison since moving to town in 1970, and a 35-year member of the Madison Country Club.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Herbert A. Ehrenfreund, and her brother, G.E. “Connie” Conover Jr. She is survived by her three daughters, Carol E. Kingsley (Charles) of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, Cindy E. Batchelder (Brian) of Pennington, New Jersey, and Gay E. Tomasevich (Kerry) of Madison. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Kingsley Dunn (Ryan) and Megan Kingsley McDowell (Seth), both of Charlottesville, Virginia, Christopher J. Tomasevich of Boston, Massachusetts, Claire L. Batchelder of Los Angeles, California, Kelly M. Tomasevich of Madison, and Scott C. Batchelder of Pennington, New Jersey; as well as two great-grandchildren, Connor and Camden Dunn.

A memorial service in celebration of Midge’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Madison on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held in the church’s fellowship hall from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
