Old Saybrook

Brian lived most of his life in Old Saybrook, where he graduated from Old Saybrook Senior High School in 1989. Following graduation, Brian worked for the Old Saybrook school system, climbing his way up to the position of head custodian. As a natural leader, Brian was nominated for and took on the position of president of his local union, where he dealt with labor relations, contracts, and other union and labor matters. During that time, he also ran his own successful landscaping business, Macek Lawn Care.

He leaves behind his mother Patricia Macek of Old Saybrook; his brothers John Macek, wife Karen, and kids Matthew, David, and Nicole of Naples, Florida, and Michael Macek and his fiancée Jill Kotulski of Old Saybrook; his sister Kathy Merola and husband Steven of Chester; and his nephews Zachary Merola of Killeen, Texas, and Gregory Merola of Chester. He also leaves behind his longtime companion and best friend of 15 years, Kate Campbell of Old Lyme, along with their furry friends Star and Griz.

Brian will be remembered by his boisterous laugh, infectious smile, and his big heart. He was a son, brother, nephew, uncle, friend, and brother-in-law who will be missed by all who knew him. Brian was predeceased by his father John C. Macek.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 28 at the United Church of Chester, 29 West Main St., Chester, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forgotten Felines, PO Box 734, Clinton, CT 06413.
