Ivoryton

Ingeborg Hansen passed away on Nov. 5 at her Ivoryton home with family at her side. She is survived by her two sons Arthur Markus Gran of Willow, New York, and Thomas Gran of Saugerties, New York; her daughter-in-law Kristin Gran; three beloved grandchildren, Elliana, Lukas and Lena; and many dear friends around the world.

Inge was born in Germany on Oct. 28, 1922, and moved to Woodstock, New York, in the 1950s where she raised her children. She moved to Essex in 1978 with her husband Arthur Hansen. Always adventurous, in 1983 the Hansens moved to San Diego, where they started a new business and a new life. Inge returned to Essex in 1999 after her husband passed away.

Inge was a loving Oma, mother, wife, and friend to all who knew her. She genuinely loved life and was always up for an adventure. She had a strong personality and a good sense of humor that kept her young throughout her life. Being the social person she was, Inge volunteered weekly in the community and kept up with her many friends around the world. In recent years she volunteered weekly at the Women’s Exchange and the Nearly New Shop in Old Lyme. Inge was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service was held on Nov. 13 at the Hurley Cemetery in New York. A celebration of her life will be held on Nov. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ivoryton Congregational Church, Ivoryton. Memorial donations in Inge’s name may be made to the Ivoryton Library Association.
