North Haven and Oxford

Bertha Mae Cousins Cinicola, 87, of Oxford, of North Haven for many years, passed away peacefully on Nov. 14 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late John Cinicola. Bertha was born in Blaine, Maine, on July 24, 1929, daughter of the late Edward and Lucy Stickney Cousins.

She worked for the former A.C. Gilberts; she and her husband worked the strawberry farm in North Haven for many years; and she worked as a switchboard operator for the Town of North Haven until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, playing bingo, but most of all doing for her family whom she loved unconditionally.

She was the mother of Joanne Cinicola (Julius Kosarka), John E. (Kathleen) Cinicola, Patricia Gaudioso (Vincent), and Anthony B. (Sheryl) Cinicola; the grandmother of Kristin Nesta (Jeffrey), Heather Santo (Justin), Jeremy Gaudioso-Aiken (Isaiah), Jeffrey and Justin Gaudioso, and Anthony and Amanda Cinicola; and the great-grandmother of Olivia Paige Nesta, Jaycee Rose, and Avery Mae Santo. She was predeceased by her siblings Harry, Basil, and Bill Cousins, Joyce Brown, and Evelyn Allen.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Therese Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
