Hamden and East Haven

Mary (Rahl) Burgh, 93, of East Haven passed away Aug. 31 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was born March 13, 1923, in New Haven to Joseph and Mabel (Norton) Rahl.

Mary is survived by her loving children James Burgh (Pam) of East Haven, Roger Burgh (Marcy) of Hamden, Sgt. NHPD Dennis Burgh (Helene) of Northford, Janice Schmidt (David) of East Haven, and David Burgh (Mary-Nelle)of East Haven; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Joseph Rahl (June) of Hamden, Donald Rahl of Florida, and Michael Rahl of Virginia; sisters Joan Vogel of North Haven, and Patricia Filbert of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Burgh (2014); son Robert Burgh (companion of Judy Torre of East Haven); granddaughter Melissa Burgh; and two sisters, Doris Rahl and Shirley Jones.

Mary was originally from Mt. Carmel, Hamden, and graduated from Hamden High School. She was the loving wife and mother of six children. Mary enjoyed sewing and making crafts for her family and friends, but her true passion was spending time with her husband of 70 years, six children, and many grandchildren. Mary served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946; she was honorably discharged as a third class petty officer.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m. the same day for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven.
