Tashie Rosen, 53, of Branford passed away at home and at peace on July 19 after a tenacious six-month fight with cancer. She was born Aug. 1, 1962, into her parents’ (Gail and Ray Sweet’s) loving arms. Tashie was married to her Amity High School sweetheart Rich Rosen for 32 years. Together they raised two sons, Matt, 26, (Simsbury) and Sam, 22, (Dartmouth and Providence, Rhode Island). Tashie is also survived by her parents Ray and Gail Sweet (Bethany); brother Richard Sweet (Durham), wife Julia, and daughters Nicole and Atalie; brother-in-law Bill Rosen (Branford), wife Rosie, and daughters Gaby and Ivana; brother-in-law Tom Rosen (Jupiter, Florida), wife Marielbys, and children TJ and Priscilla; along with loving in-laws Bill and Polly Rosen and many other cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Tashie achieved an accounting degree, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Hartford, passing the CPA exam. Her first job was with Big 8 accounting firm Deloitte in New Haven, as well as other accounting work for various family businesses, theaters, transportation, and fast food.

Over the last fifteen years Tashie was the chief financial officer for the Branford Public Schools, proudly working closely with Superintendent Hamlet Hernandez, Jim Finch, Mike Krause, and the rest of the Board of Education, as well as many other wonderful co-workers and friends.

Tashie’s children were always her number one priority. Tashie exposed them to many experiences, reading enthusiastically and instilling heartfelt values such as love, respect, hard work, and achieving the best education they could receive. Tashie was fundamental in getting the Little Kicks program started within the Branford soccer program. She was jubilant when Matt’s Odyssey of the Mind team won the world championships, beating China.

Tashie almost never missed a son’s activity. She loved watching wrestling, track, lacrosse, and especially soccer games. Trips to WPI and Dartmouth soccer games brought great pleasure. Last fall, Tashie was delighted to be surrounded by friends and family in New Haven to see Dartmouth (future Ivy League champs...again) beat Yale 1-nil on Sam’s long goal. Yes, Sam you did score “at home.”

Tashie learned the joy of travel from her parents and instilled it in her own family. With some unforgettable trips to five continents, Tashie was just getting started. Boys, remember the Pancakin’ House in Amsterdam? Other hobbies included gardening, biking, hiking, fishing, and water skiing. Tashie was very talented in many areas. Not too many are capable of both producing a gorgeous quilt and an elegant stone wall.

Our family is grateful to our Hospice professionals who knew just what we needed, and to Dr. Eder and the Phase I clinical trial teams both at Smilow and at Dana-Farber. Thank you Dr. Leena Ghandi for giving us a second chance!

Throughout her illness, Tashie was graceful, loving, and so tough. Never complaining, she instead worried about others’ concerns and plights. She will be so very much missed.
