Branford

Rex Leeds of Branford died on May 15 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Gabrylowicz Leeds of Branford. He is also survived by his daughters Valerie Leeds of Madison and Bonnie Sadowy (husband Hal) of Carmel, Indiana, as well as his grandchildren Jennifer Sweeney, Jesse Sadowy, Justin Leeds-Frank, and Jeremy Leeds-Frank. He also leaves his great-grandchildren Madison, Jessica, and Jonathan. He was predeceased by his brother James Leeds.

Rex was born in Branford on Dec. 29, 1924, a son of Dr. Rev. Frederick Leeds and Ellen Reid Leeds. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II in Europe. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven with a degree in business and was the owner of Rex Leeds Insurance Agency in Branford for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Branford Exchange Club. He was also a member of the Shoreline Revolutionary War Round Table and the Shoreline Civil War Round Table. He was past president of the New Haven Veterans Council and was involved in various veterans’ organizations.

Funeral services will be held on May 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Branford. Burial will be private. Friends may call May 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Community Dining Room, 30 Harrison Ave., Branford, CT 06405.
