12/21/2014 11:00 PMAlicia Ema Afonso, 86, of Stepstone Hill Rd., Guilford, formerly of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away at Connecticut Hospice of Branford on Dec. 18. She was born in Santiago, Chile, on Feb. 15, 1928, loving daughter of the late Dora Gutierrez and Alfonso Gomez. She was the beloved wife of Lidio Augusto Afonso.
Her three children Nelson (Angela) Afonso, Alicia (Nelson) Barreira, and Doris (Christopher) Kandel will miss her deeply, as will her four loving grandchildren, John Joseph Barreira, Alicia Michelle Afonso, Samuel Afonso Kandel, and Sara Marie Barreira.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, on Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow Mass in Alder Brook Cemetery, Boston St., Guilford. Friends may call Dec. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
